interested in incorporating palliative care principles in their practice. These sessions are held thrice yearly, in January, March, and December.

Certificate Course in Fundamentals of Palliative Care (CCFPC)
Objective
To empower doctors and nurses in palliative care skills, including pain & symptom management; end-of-life care; nursing & wound management; communication skills that focus on breaking bad news, managing collusion and denial, handling distressing emotions; goals of care discussions, and skills in prognostication.
Eligibility
MBBS/BDS registered with the relevant medical/dental council Nurses registered with the relevant nursing council.
Course Highlights:
● Evidence-based curriculum with theory sessions by domain experts in palliative medicine (national and international)
● In-person training in a 73 bedded hospice at Bengaluru
● Practical skill building through daily ward rounds, post-round discussions, wound dressing rounds, and shadowing the counsellors
● Homecare visits along with the homecare team
● Participation in in-house academic training activities that include case presentations, skill-building sessions and guest lectures.

Sensitisation training in Palliative Care for Healthcare Professionals
KIPCER conducts 1-day, 3-day and 5-day in-person or virtual sensitisation sessions for healthcare professionals to create awareness about the principles and practices of palliative care.
Objective
To create awareness among healthcare professionals about palliative care and sensitize them on the principles and practises of palliative care
Eligibility
Doctors, Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers and Other Allied Healthcare Professionals.

● In-person training will include a half-day orientation visit to the hospice at Bengaluru

General Duty Assistant Training Program (Health Assistant Training
Program)
This is one of the flagship programs of KIPCER, which has been ongoing since 2002. We have trained over 300 general duty assistants with this program. The 6-month (August to January) in-person training program provides the participants with basic knowledge about palliative care and skills needed to care for patients with terminal illnesses at home, hospice, hospital, and other healthcare settings. It aims to empower youth from impoverished backgrounds to become independent individuals
Objective
To empower participants with skills needed to care for patients with terminal illnesses
Eligibility:
10th standard
Course Highlights:
● 2-month theory-based training, which includes:
o Anatomy, Fundamentals of Nursing, Wound care, Nutrition, Mobility Management
o Basic understanding of grief, handling patient/caregiver emotions and distress, and communication skills
o Assessment of physical symptoms and knowledge about commonly-used medications in palliative care
o Basic Computer skills
o Basic spoken and written English
● We have a well-equipped skill-building lab as per Government of India norms for practical training
● A 4-month hands-on practical training in patient care at the bedside in the hospice at Bengaluru is mandatory for the completion of the course

Volunteer Training Program in Palliative Care:
KIPCER runs a two-day in-person certificate training program for community volunteers in palliative care. This course is modelled on WHO’s 16-hour training curriculum for volunteers and is run in collaboration with the Indian Association of Palliative Care. This course is conducted twice a year, in April and November
Objective
To familiarize participants with the basic principles of palliative care. To provide participants with the skills needed to manage the emotional and social issues of patients with terminal illnesses and their families, communication skills to have difficult conversations about illness, death, and dying, and to work on mobilising community support for palliative care.
Eligibility: General Public (18 years and above)

● Lectures by domain experts with experience in volunteering in palliative care
● WHO-recommended curriculum
● Experiential learning through case discussions, interactive sessions with volunteers at the hospice, and hospice rounds

The course aims to inculcate the principles of palliative care in everyday practice for doctors and nurses and improve patient care through proper communication and effective management of difficult symptoms. This is an entry-level course that provides basic palliative care skills for doctors and nurses. This is a flagship course of the Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC). Certificate Course in Counselling Skills in Cancer and Palliative Care (CCPC) is a blended learning program is our annual training program from July to December for psychologists and social workers to increase their knowledge and improve their skills in identifying, assessing, and managing psychological, social, and spiritual concerns in oncology and palliative care. Trainees will develop a comprehensive skill sets that will improve their ability to identify and address distress among cancer patients and their caregivers, improve competencies in basic and difficult communication, and manage end-of-life and survivorship concerns.

KIPCER launched 2 specialized 6-month certificate courses on July 1, 2022, in collaboration with Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. These are blended learning programs offered through the learning management system and involve both synchronous and asynchronous elements. KIPCER offers opportunities for internship, observer-ship, and volunteering for professionals and students from medicine, nursing, psychology, psycho-oncology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, social work, and public health background. The duration and structure of the training is tailored to the needs of the candidates.
We also offer clinical postings for National Fellowship in Palliative Care Medicine and National Fellowship in Palliative Care Nursing by the Institute of Palliative Medicine, Calicut.
